Pinterest Catalog Automation is an add-on service that creates a stream of collected UGC, IGC and brand assets automatically to selected Pinterest boards, getting a continuous influx of high-quality and rights-approved pins.

Pinterest Catalog Automation allows the shared media to carry information to link your products to your e-commerce, such as product link, price, name and description. This way you can drive traffic to your online store, converting users into paying customers and retaining them post-purchase.

What do these pins look like?

For each media published to Pinterest, a Pin is created with the following elements:

  • Image: Image file from our library

  • Title: The Product name that comes from the brand's PDP

  • Description: Original UGC's caption and owner (user handle) is always sent.

  • Pin URL: The URL each product has in our catalog. This means that clicking on that Pin will take the user straight to the product page.

  • Price (only in certain regions): If the price metadata is right, Pinterest will include this as well.

Are all brands eligible for this service?

Unfortunately no. Here are some of the pre-requisites needed:

  • A verified Pinterest account.

  • At least one verified Pinterest account connected to the Earned Content Platform. Press here to learn how to connect your account.

  • Your e-commerce Product Pages must be properly tagged with correct metadata (product information items). If this information is not right, we won't be able to retrieve product information. (More info here and Pinterest validator here).

FAQs

Q: Can we send videos to Pinterest?
A: For now only images can be published as pins.

Q: Do I need to set a title and description for my Pins?
A: Not at all. We are using UGC information along with actual product data retrieved from the product_URL provided to populate all fields required for Pin creation.

Q: Can I have media tagged with ANY stream sent to Pinterest?
A: Only actual product streams (with a valid product URL) are taken into account when finding media to post. Any other stream (manual) that is not a product one will be ignored if it is included in the list of streams when executing the job.

Q: Can I edit or delete Pins from the UGC Platform?
A: For the time being only Pin creation is possible through our offerings. Pins can only be edited and/or deleted from the Pinterest platform itself.

Q: Is there a limit on the number of boards I can have content sent to?
A: There is no limit to how many boards we create and update with new pins.

Q: What are Public, Secret, and Protected boards?
A: Details can be found at https://help.pinterest.com/

Brief summary:

  • Public boards are visible on the Brand's Pinterest profile. Pins in these boards are normally distributed and will organically appear on users' feeds, search results and related-pins features.

  • Secret boards and their pins can only be seen by the Brand itself and whoever is invited to those boards. These pins will not be distributed organically nor appear on searches to regular users.

  • Protected boards are not visible to anyone that doesn't have the URL to that board. Pins in these boards are NOT distributed in the same way as public pins, but can potentially appear as search results and on users' feeds. These boards are used a lot as "testing boards" for the brands to vet pins before making them available to the users (or creating ads from them)

Q: How often is media published?
A: We check for new media to publish hourly.
