Publish content with Pinterest Pin Publishing

Updated over 4 years ago

Pinterest Pin Publishing is a feature that allows you to manually share UGC, IGC and brand assets collected by Social Native's Earned Content Platform in the form of Pins to Pinterest (single or bulk).

To get started using Pinterest Pin Publishing you need the following:

  • The feature to be enabled on your brand's dashboard. If you don't see the option, please contact your Account Manager.

  • At least one Pinterest account connected to Social Native's Earned Content Solution. Press here to learn how to connect your account.

Publishing content manually on Pinterest:

  1. Log into the Earned Content platform. Then, from the "Approved Content" section of the content library, select any media to open the Media Modal.

  2. Click on "Share to" to access the sharing section of the pop-up, and then select Pinterest as the desired activation channel.

  3. Select the Pinterest account on which you want to publish the media to.

  4. Select the Pinterest board you want the media to be published to. You can choose an existing board or create a new one.

  5. Add a title and a description for the pin.

  6. Once ready, click on "Share Now".

FAQ.

Q: Can a brand create pins without having a Pinterest account connected to the Earned Content platform?
A: No. We need the brand's Pinterest account to be connected to the Earned content Platform to access and post on its behalf.

Q: What are Public, Secret, and Protected boards?
A: Details can be found at https://help.pinterest.com/

Brief summary:

  • Public boards are visible on the Brand's Pinterest profile. Pins in these boards are normally distributed and will organically appear on users' feeds, search results and related-pins features.

  • Secret boards and their pins can only be seen by the Brand itself and whoever is invited to those boards. These pins will not be distributed organically nor appear on searches to regular users.

  • Protected boards are not visible to anyone that doesn't have the URL to that board. Pins in these boards are NOT distributed in the same way as public pins, but can potentially appear as search results and on users' feeds. These boards are used a lot as "testing boards" for the brands to vet pins before making them available to the users (or creating ads from them)

Q: I'm selecting media from my library but I cannot see the Share To Pinterest option. What am I missing?
A: One (or more) of the following might be happening:

  • The media is not approved (Only media in the "Approved Content" section is available for sharing).

  • The feature is not enabled (please ask your Account Manager to activate it).

  • There are no Pinterest Accounts available (make sure the right Pinterest account is connected in the UGC platform).

Q: I do see Pinterest accounts but not the one I need. How can I add more Pinterest accounts?
A: Just connect a new Pinterest account from the settings page! You can connect as many as you want.

Q: Are there any restrictions regarding what media can be sent?
A: At first, only image files can be published to Pinterest. Videos are not supported.

Q: Can I re-post media to Pinterest? Can I post the same media to several Pinterest accounts?
A: Yes. But bare in mind that Pinterest doesn't allow allow duplicates. This means that if any given image is posted as a Pin to a specific Pinterest account, if you try to create a new pin to the same Pinterest account and with the same media instead of having a new Pin created, Pinterest’s “save” functionality kicks in, and that means:

  • The same file asset, title and description are going to be used, to create a new Pin to the newly selected board. This means that republishing the same UGC on the same account is possible but you won’t be able to use a different title or description. Pinterest will automatically reuse the information from the original (first) Pin that was created to link the new pins to the new boards.

  • If you choose a different Pinterest account, you can create a new pin as usual. Duplicate control ("save” action instead of creation) only affects pins within the same destination account.

Q: Can I schedule the publishing of a Pin?
A: That would be a no for now. Pinterest development started before the Scheduler functionality was created, so it could not be plugged in yet. If we see the need for scheduled social pins in the future we will most likely do the work needed to allow this.

Q: I'm trying to post an image to Pinterest but it keeps saying there was an error and it's not published. What should I do?
A: Please contact customer support so we can investigate what might be going on and provide and answer along with a solution if possible.

Q: Can I add a link to the images so that when the user clicks on the Pin navigation to the desired URL takes place?
A: Not for now. These pins do not include a "target URL" which means that they don't take you to any page when clicking on them.
