Differences between your Earned Content analytics and Google Analytics

Updated over 4 years ago

Many times there maybe discrepancies between our Earned Content Platform Analytics versus Google Analytics (GA) that is implemented and tracked externally. Please see a list of common reasons on why differences are seen.

The GA Implementation/Configuration Differences

  1. There are a wide range of implementation levels (product impressions, promotions, campaigns, sales at product level, etc).

  2. Their GA is tracking an entire site, which means it is encompasses tracking in terms of visits/visitors across every page.

  3. Clients could be using specific filters when tracking or reporting data within GA.

  4. The type of tracking events could vary. Clients may be including additional events.

  5. Conversions in GA (based on goals) could mean something different from what we call a conversion.

  6. The way GA calculates a session can vary depending on the client’s vertical and size.

  7. The length of the conversion window and the logic behind it is different. They may be using higher/lower window, compared to what we have set in our admin.

  8. End-users might have set their browser preferences in ways that prevent GA from collecting data properly.

  9. Some specifics in client’s website such as redirects in landing pages can often keep analytics code (both) from properly identifying traffic.
